Job Description

We are currently seeking Planner/Scheduler to join our team of skilled professionals at our Brampton, ON location. This state of the art manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Planner/Scheduler will coordinate, plan, schedule and supervise maintenance tasks and work orders. The Planner/Scheduler will ensure all parts are available to perform the jobs, maintain an ongoing library of drawings, sketches, pictures, and catalogues of parts. They will review jobs to determine labor, parts, and priority, ensuring safety is a priority at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review work requests for accuracy and clarity and approve them as needed.
  • Escalate issues to the Reliability Engineer for work that does not appear to be valid or well justified.
  • Work with Production Supervisors and Superintendents to ensure that assets are prepared for maintenance work as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department to ensure documentation (including drawings, BOMs, instructions, etc.) are readily available for tradespeople prior to commencing the work.
  • Coordinate with the Store Room Coordinator to ensure that all parts required for the jobs have been identified, secured, and properly kitted well in advance.
  • Engage with external sources (i.e., rental companies) to ensure special tools, aerial equipment, and service technicians are available as needed.
  • Provide job estimates and follow up to ensure they have been accurately met by the trades.
  • Work with the Maintenance Department to ensure tasks have all the necessary instructions, tools, and safety precautions for the job at hand, providing feedback to the Maintenance Superintendent prior to completing the work orders signed off by the mechanics.
  • Lead planning and scheduling meetings for line shutdowns and ensure planning for opportunistic maintenance.
  • Manage work order backlog based on equipment criticality.
  • Keep accurate metrics on planning and scheduling performance and provide reports to the Maintenance Superintendent periodically.
  • Participate actively in any new projects initiated by the Company, such as the introduction of predictive maintenance, Run time PM, etc.
  • Follow up with mechanics and contractors to ensure work requirements associated with preventative maintenance, projects, and day-to-day work orders are completed.
  • Promote a culture that reinforces the Company’s values and expectations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of planning/scheduling experience with CMMS. Experience with Maximo is an added advantage.
  • Post-secondary education in a technical field with a Mechanical/Electrical background is preferred.
  • Adequate craft knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirements, and skills needed to complete a job. Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work.
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentational) skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide simple and accurate instructions.
  • Ability to read standard blueprints, machine, and process drawings. Ability to sketch or redline existing drawings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of maintenance processes and proper use of the work order system, planning, scheduling, and storeroom processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills (problem solving & troubleshooting).
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office.
