We are looking for Service Technicians in all of the Northern Ontario markets we serve including the Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Dryden, Geraldton, Marathon, Wawa, Porcupine, and New Liskeard areas.
Job purpose
As a Service Technician, you will be responsible for installing and servicing equipment and tanks based on your certifications and tickets. G1, equipment above 400,000 BTUs, G2, equipment up to and including 400,000 BTUs & G3, working with a G1 or G2. The Service Technician responds to requests based on their certifications for the most difficult and unusual repair situations in recognition of their role as the technical and code expert for the service team.
The Service Technician will also be accountable for upholding the highest standards for safety in the service and handling of propane and for conducting regular vehicle inspections and maintenance. The Service Technician will collaborate with a Service Coordinator on a regular and consistent basis for scheduling information and to provide feedback on issues encountered and obtain instructions in relation to day-to-day activities. The Service Technician may be called upon to provide direct daily supervision to a Service Technician or apprentice until achievement of G2 or G1 designation.
Duties and responsibilities
- Apply advanced technical knowledge in the installation and service of complex residential and commercial propane equipment, including repairs, dispenser inspections, re-qualifying cylinders, and the installation and service of propane tanks and appliances.
- Safe operation of the crane truck and other service vehicles required to perform tank installations, relocations, and pickups.
- Maintain, request, and stock service truck with inventory to ensure all necessary parts, materials, and supplies are available to perform daily work orders.
- Collect customer signatures/stamps and payments for deposits if necessary, utilizing OBTC (On Board Truck Computer) technology.
- Apply lock-out procedures in unsafe customer installations.
- Conduct and maintain the highest standard of safety in all activities and operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and relevant regulations, including conducting pre and post vehicle inspections, site inspections, and visual tank inspections.
- Collaborate with the Service Coordinator frequently for routing and scheduling information, notifying them of any service, customer, routing, scheduling, or safety issues immediately.
- Collaborate with the Market Manager or Field Operations Manager to inform them of successes, issues, or challenges encountered, and obtain their approval for overtime and submit hours worked bi-weekly.
- Provide exceptional customer service by promoting the company and its products positively and maintaining good customer relations.
- Seek, identify, and capitalize on sales opportunities by providing product information, brochures, and contact numbers.
- If the employee is a G1 G2 Service Technician, provide training and direction to G3 Service Technicians as required.

Compensation
Depending on certification and tickets:
- G1 Certification with rail, mining, and LP tickets: $40.00-$45.00 per hour.
- G2 Certification with LP tickets: $32.00-$36.00 per hour.
- G3 Certification: $26.00-$28.00 per hour.
- Full-time position, Sarjeant Propane will also entertain any gas fitter looking for a part-time schedule.
- Eligible for paid vacation time.

- Relocation assistance available to candidates who meet the requirements of the position and are successful in the hiring process.
- The work schedule would consist of 5 shifts per week at 8 hours per day or 4 shifts per week at 10 hours per day.
- Long hours may be required during the busy seasons of May-October to meet operational needs.
Qualifications
- Must possess a secondary school diploma.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
- Provincial gas fitter certificates and record of training are required.
- HVAC certification and qualifications are preferred.
- Advanced technical knowledge of propane appliances, equipment, and plant operations.
- Excellent knowledge of B149 code.
- WHMIS and TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) training and certification.
- Valid driver’s license with three (3) years’ experience and clean driver’s abstract.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment testing including drug and alcohol screening and a physical.
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects regularly.
- Knowledge and ability to use computers, specifically on-board truck computers.
- Take pride in maintaining positive customer relationships by professionally representing Sarjeant Propane.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Full training provided for company-specific gas fitting job tasks.
