Course Title: LGGA96H3 - Introductory Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) I - Summer 2025

Course Description: Introductory Anishinaabemowin I is a beginner’s course that aims to introduce students to the Anishinaabemowin language. Anishinaabemowin is classified as a severely endangered language by UNESCO and is the second most widely spoken First Nations language in Canada. Learners will be equipped with basic skills to understand conjugation patterns, memorize the 500 most used words, and master the beginnings of sentence structure through the usage of spaced repetition software.

Salary: In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:
- BA or equivalent degree, Masters or higher preferred.
- Prior experience teaching Anishinaabemowin to adults or children.
- Advanced fluency in Anishinaabemowin.
- Strong computer skills.

Prospective applicants must be comfortable working with the Southwestern Dialect even if it is not the one they use in daily life.

Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. The course will take place online during the Summer 2025 term (May-August).
