Assistant Vice President, Professional Services

$120-$140K

Our client is a privately held premier OSS software developer with headquarters in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Their client list is global with Tier I and II communication service providers. This position is based in Richmond Hill, Ontario reporting to the Vice President Global Services. Travel will be 50-60% within North and Latin America and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Operations:
    • Overall responsibility for high quality, timely and profitable professional services proposals, contracts/work definitions and associated customer/partner deliveries.
    • Contract development, negotiation and commitment management of all required business agreements (prime and subcontract).
    • Overall responsibility for client satisfaction related to all customers/partners activities.
    • Coordination and escalation of issues/jeopardy that cannot be handled at a regional level affecting profitability, reputation and customer satisfaction.
  2. Partnerships:
    • Identification, selection, development, support and relationship management of strategic partners and extended resource capacity channels.
  3. Infrastructure Development:
    • Lead and assist with major practice development projects associated with infrastructure development (process, people, & technology) – primarily focused on quality, competency, productivity and organizational effectiveness.
  4. Resource Management:
    • Capacity planning, recruitment and retention of professional services resources including career development, mentoring, training coordination and performance assessment.
  5. Financial Management:
    • P&L responsibility and accountability for group including:
    • Revenue/cost/margin management – primarily measured by resource capacity utilization and cost control of non-billable time, travel & expenses.
    • Annual budget preparation and justification, budget management (variance handling).
  6. Leadership:
    • Assist with vision, strategy, planning and communication of global/regional PS activities.
  7. Other:
    • Assisting the VP, Global Services with other responsibilities, projects & activities as required.

Technical Skills Required

  1. Concepts of Project Management:
    • Ability to demonstrate a full working knowledge of basic Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) and supporting Project Management processes and disciplines.
  2. Principles of Standard Solution Delivery Approaches:
    • Detailed working level understanding of industry-standard Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) project management and solution delivery processes, gating and tools.
  3. Concepts of Relevant I.T./Telecom Technologies:
    • Appreciation and understanding of relevant I.T./Telecom Technologies including UNIX, Informix and/or Oracle/Sybase, JAVA, C/C++, CORBA, SNMP, TL1, Q3/CMIP and leading middleware technologies.
  4. Principles of Telecommunications Networks:
    • Appreciation and understanding of data communications technologies for "New Public Networks" including ATM, Frame Relay, xDSL, IP and related services.
  5. Principles of Telecommunications OSS’s:
    • Appreciation and understanding of telecom service provisioning, planning/engineering, operations, service delivery and engineering.

    • Ability to mentor senior and junior technical staff to assist with career development.

Experience Required

  1. 10-12 years of Project Management/PMO experience in complex I.T./Telecommunications project environments.
  2. Demonstrated, sustained experience in a leadership/management position within overall organizational responsibility for a medium-large sized team (50+ staff).
  3. Demonstrated, sustained on-time, on-budget, on-quality, on-scope experience in a leadership/management position within overall budget responsibility for multiple medium-large sized projects ($1-5m+USD).
  4. 8-10 years experience in a consulting and/or professional services company environment.

Training/Qualifications Required

Preferably: Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering/Management/Telecommunications or related fields.

Productivity Skills Required

High proficiency with: E-Mail/Outlook, MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), MS Project, MS Access & MS Excel, Project Management/Job Accounting Systems.
