Job description

The Edmonton Hotel and Convention Centre Edmonton is looking for a Full time Front Desk Agent.

At our hotel guests feel that we are their home away from their home because our staff are friendly, empathetic and are willing to go the extra mile for our guests.

Main duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Register arriving guests and assign rooms; process reservations, group arrivals and departures;
  • Create reservations via telephone, central/global reservations, correspondence, and in person;
  • Take, cancel and change room reservations;
  • Provide information on hotel facilities and services;
  • Arrange services required for guests with special needs;
  • Process wake-up calls;
  • Investigate and resolve complaints and claims;
  • Responsible for a cash float;
  • Balance cash and complete balance sheets, cashier reports and related forms; maintain occupancy statistics;
  • Customer service focus;
  • Provide courteous and efficient telephone services including accurate message taking and handling guest inquiries/questions/reservations;
  • Be knowledgeable of information regarding the hotel and surrounding area;
  • Answer guest inquiries regarding rates, special packages, and general information accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Accurate completion of all special billing requests;
  • Responsible for check-in and check-out of guests in a friendly welcoming manner;
  • Present statements of charges to departing guests and receive payment;
  • Perform general office duties and any other duties assigned;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of our guests and co-workers by maintaining a knowledge of crisis and emergency procedures;
  • Ensure inter-departmental communication and cooperation in the interest of better guest satisfaction;
  • Work shifts as business levels dictate;
  • Work with minimal supervision, perform clerical duties (i.e. faxing, filing, photocopying), keyboarding, and perform light housekeeping and cleaning;
  • All Front Desk Agents will be trained and expected to work in other areas of the Front Office when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Previous Front Office/Guest Service customer service experience an asset - Opera PMS and MS Office experience preferred;
  • 1 year of experience as a Hotel Front Desk Clerk preferred;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of clients and offer the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required;
  • Must be a responsible, self-motivated and well-organized individual;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral are a must;
  • Professional appearance and manner;

Physical Aspects of Position:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift;

The shifts for front desk are 7 AM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 11 PM, and night audit 11 PM to 7 AM.

Experience is a great asset with Front office and reception as well as being able to multitask and work under pressure. Communication and the ability to read/write and fluency in English are important. The successful applicant will have experience in customer relations, handling cash, and have an eye for detail. Must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and stat holidays with the occasional night audit shift.
