Faculty Position: Sociology
Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Faculty of Social Science at The King’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track
appointment in our 3- and 4-year BA Sociology programs, beginning August 1, 2025. Our Sociology programs
offer students rich and rigorous study in the core disciplines of Sociology, as well as opportunities to pursue
program streams in Cultural Analysis and Community Engagement. We are seeking a new member who can
offer courses in a range of Sociological fields and topics and encourage applications from all areas in the
discipline. We are committed to creating a vibrant Sociology program at King's that fosters the inclusion of
diverse perspectives and voices and that includes the voices of marginalized people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidates will bring with them a dedication to excellence in teaching, with an ability to teach a
variety of courses in Sociology, potentially including Sociological Theory, Research Methods, Sociology of
Deviance, or the Sociology of Health and Illness. The ideal candidates will also be excited to help us renew our
course offerings, particularly at the intersections with one or more applied fields. The successful candidate
will have an innovative and active program of scholarship with the ability to incorporate advanced
undergraduate students and/or community partners into their research projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching the equivalent of 6 courses per year in undergraduate programming
  • Engagement in an ongoing scholarly research program
  • Engagement in ongoing service to the department, the Faculty of Social Science, and the greater University community and external stakeholders
  • Creating connections and developing relationships with students through advising, research supervision, and mentoring

The successful candidate will demonstrate a growing ability to articulate the connection between sociological
analysis and the Christian faith in a way that welcomes diverse students and colleagues into a shared project
of understanding our society and our times in the light of our fundamental commitments and values, even as
these are contested and changing. They will have a solid grounding in qualitative or quantitative approaches
to scholarly research and will welcome the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and collegial
environment that also values autonomy and scholarly development.

The successful candidate is required to hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Sociology or a related discipline (e.g.,
Anthropology, Social Work). Candidates who are close to Ph.D. completion are encouraged to apply; the
appointment will be contingent upon the completion of the Ph.D. by an agreed-upon date.

The King’s University follows a standardized salary grid. The salary range for an Assistant Professor position is
$67,500 - $84,500/yr, and $79,900 - $100,000 for an Associate professor position. A comprehensive benefit
package, pension, and generous vacation and time off are provided.
