Wood is recruiting for a Structural Designer to join its Oil, Gas & New Energies (OGNE) business focusing on various projects. This opportunity is hybrid in Calgary, AB.

This role is responsible for carrying out assigned structural design work as part of a multi-discipline project team. The Structural Designer will produce complex 3D structural models, develop 2D structural drawings, perform quality checks, and collaborate with project teams, including coordination with global workshare teams.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out assigned structural design work as part of a multi-discipline project team.
  • Provide discipline specific design and drafting services that meet the Project’s, and applicable statutory and regulatory, requirements.
  • Produce complex 3D structural models using Advance Steel, E3D, and Smart3D.
  • Produce 2D structural drawings from reference 3D models using AutoCad, Microstation and Smart Sketch.
  • Perform quality checks on 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with Wood QA/QC procedures.
  • Coordinate and work with project team members, including coordination with other disciplines.
  • Coordinate work with Wood Global workshare teams.
  • Preparing material take-offs.
  • Managing time and tasks within allotted schedule and budgets.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to designers on the project.
  • Performing other discipline duties as requested by Structural lead.

Expected

  • Diploma in Structural Engineering Design and Drafting Technology.
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Excellent organizational, technical, writing, communication, and computer skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and proven experience with modeling and drafting, including Autodesk Advance Steel, AVEVA E3D, Intergraph Smart3D, AutoCAD, SmartSketch.
  • Demonstrated experience with checking drawings is an asset.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Motivated by working with people, through internal collaboration or with external clients.
  • Loves to share knowledge, experiences, and expertise with others to assist, mentor, and coach less experienced team members in their development.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada at the time of application.
