Scobey and Peerless Lutheran Churches are searching for a new pastor to lead us as our pastor of 27 years retired this last spring. We are looking for someone who can fulfill the duties and responsibilities required of a sole pastor for a two-point parish. These duties would include:
We are looking for someone who will maintain ecumenical relations with other area clergy as well. We would prefer a pastor to have a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited Lutheran seminary and be on the clergy roster of the LCMC. We would be open to having an interim pastor while looking for a permanent one.
Scobey and Peerless Lutheran parishes are active, faithful congregations. Scobey Lutheran has an average attendance of 100-120. We have youth programs that include Sunday School, Luther League, Confirmation classes, and a Mentor Program for students grades 7-10. Our students acolyte, usher, read the Sunday lessons, and serve at congregational and community events. We currently have four adult Bible Studies, an active Ladies Aide, Altar Guild, choir, and quilting group. A parsonage next to the church is also available for living arrangements. Peerless Lutheran is a short 20 miles away with an average attendance of 15-20. Regular Sunday services are held each week, as well as special services during Advent and Lent.
Our communities are located in farming and ranching country in Northeastern Montana out on rolling plains. Our area is ideal for deer and bird hunting with great fishing close by. We are just two hours from the large city of Regina, Saskatchewan to our north and two hours from Williston, North Dakota to our east. Scobey is the county seat and provides all the basic services including a hospital and nursing home, dental and eye clinics, a telecommunications business, grocery, hardware, and drug store, as well as two coffee shops. We have a skating rink, community pool, bowling alley, movie theatre, county library, golf course, fitness center, a senior center, and a Pioneer Town and museum. There are many community activities for both youth and adults to be involved in, some of which are music, sports, scouting, 4-H, and FFA.
