About The Role

As a Consultant on our National Accounts Team, you are the primary point of contact for medium to large sized clients, handling their day-to-day needs and ensuring high-quality work delivery. Leveraging your deep understanding of employee benefits, you make recommendations and present solutions to both clients and internal stakeholders. Your role extends to people management, where you coach and mentor junior team members, fostering their growth and development.

Your role involves ensuring deliverables meet legislative requirements and client expectations through planning, managing, and peer reviewing work, including valuations, renewals, and RFPs. You excel in client relationship management, problem-solving, and communication, contributing to business growth by fostering client relationships, staying informed about our offerings, and supporting internal projects. Your expertise in project management and client guidance makes you an essential team member.

What You’ll Do

• Help to grow and build business with current and prospective clients
• Maintain service and revenue accountability for medium to large sized clients
• As a lead member of client teams, ensure delivery of high-quality work that meets client needs, such as:
• Analyze financial and claims information relating to benefits plans, annual renewals and client proposals
• Evaluate the cost and design competitiveness of client benefit plans
• Negotiate service and premium rate agreements with insurance providers
• Deliver presentations to clients; conduct client meetings
• Review and provide advice related to benefit plan contracts and documentation
• Manage multiple clients or provide senior support for large clients
• Build and maintain excellent relations with clients and internal colleagues
• Lead client meetings and present work to clients using effective and clear written and oral communication
• Identify problems and implement proactive and creative solutions
• Interpret benefits legislation and standards and educate team members as appropriate
• Manage the relationship between clients, administrators, insurance providers and other team members
• Coach and guide team members including providing regular feedback
• Act as a mentor to team members, supporting their growth and development
• Lead internal training sessions to build knowledge of industry topics and trends
• Participate in external training and industry conferences and seminars
• Manage special projects as required
• Act as a resource to the Employee Benefits practice area
• Build knowledge of and stay informed about other lines of business and introduce other services to clients as appropriate
• Identify cross selling opportunities in other lines of business and introduce other services to clients as appropriate

What You’ll Need for Success

• 5 to 10 years of experience in group benefits or the group insurance industry
• Post-secondary education and related courses in group benefits (CEBS) or actuarial sciences
• Must have LLQP or willingness to obtain it
• Proven capability at the Consultant level
• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
• Exceptional customer focus
• Excellent communication, project management, presentation and negotiation skills
• Proven leader with the ability to motivate and inspire team members
• Mentor and coach, who demonstrates patience and intuition
• Extremely organized self-starter, flexible, highly independent
• Good working knowledge of personal computers and software, particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
