This is a fixed term appointment from April 1, 2025 – May 30 2026, with possibility of extension.

Organizational Status: Reports to the Manager of Communications and Marketing, Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS). Works closely with management from all departmental units within SHCS.
Work Performed:
- Liaises with stakeholders within SHCS to identify marketing and communication needs within the Student Housing, Residence Life, Food Services, and Conference and Accommodations portfolios.
- Generates engaging, client-focused campaigns aimed at increasing awareness and usership of services and initiatives within SHCS.
- Identifies and creates initiatives in support of the marketing and communication strategy of each unit as well as the overarching SHCS marketing and communications strategy; creates a project schedule for each initiative and monitors progress.
- Develops content needed for marketing campaigns, including; creating a marketing plan and sharing with stakeholders, designing print and digital assets, updating content on stakeholder websites and social channels, shooting photography and social media content, and distributing campaign assets to other campus partners and channels.
- Manages the social media strategy for stakeholders including developing an annual plan, content strategy and creation, design and automation.
- Maintains and updates pages on a variety of SHCS websites including Student Housing, Sage Catering, and Food Services websites, and creating and/or editing written copy for the web.
- Builds, runs and distributes student surveys as part of ongoing market research, product marketing, and brand management initiatives.
- Plans and executes promotion and engagement events.
- Ensures all marketing materials and channels follow UBC and unit specific brand standards.
- Supports the Manager of Communications and Marketing in analyzing campaign data (websites, social media, ads, etc.) and making suggestions for improvements, creating reports for clients.
- Other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement: Makes decisions regarding the implementation of sales, promotions and marketing work. This position represents the University as well as Student Housing and Community Services. Incorrect decisions or judgment will directly affect UBC's reputation with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Incorrect decisions will affect the University's ability to effectively communicate with its audiences, with a direct negative impact on the student experience.
Supervision Received: Works under the general direction and guidance of the Manager of Communications and Marketing, SHCS, and within university policies and guidelines. Works with other staff in SHCS, keeping the manager informed. Work is reviewed based on achievement of defined objectives and completion of assigned work.
Supervision Given: May participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of new student staff. Supports Manager of Communications and Marketing in providing training and supervision for student staff. May give direction to external service providers.
Minimum Qualifications: Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Education/Work Experience:
- University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years experience.
Performance Competencies and Criteria:- Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience in strategic marketing communications planning and project coordination.
- Aptitude with various social media platforms as well as the data tracking tools associated with them, and experience using social media for marketing purposes.
- Familiarity with WordPress and demonstrated understanding of web design and usability best practices.
- Experience with design software like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Canva.
- Experience with photography, videography and editing programs such as Photoshop.
- Ability to plan and implement a broad range of digital and non-digital communications projects.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to function effectively within a changing environment.
- Knowledge of marketing strategies and a commitment to staying up to date with current best practices.
- An understanding of the university environment and culture is an asset.
