What role you will play in our team

This Safety Advisor role provides Safety support to Midstream operating assets (fuels distribution and pipeline facilities), office facilities, and projects for Midstream facilities. A Safety Advisor will focus on building expertise in one or more of the following: personnel safety, process safety, and OIMS, while interfacing and building relationships with internal customers (e.g., operations), internal partners (e.g., engineering or project disciplines) and external partners (contractors and regulatory agencies) in alignment with business need.

What you will do

Primary job duties, tasks, and functions specific to the position:

  • Support field personnel in training and ongoing understanding of the use of Personnel Safety Management System (PSMS) tools, verify understanding while on site visits, and provide coaching on the use of the tools.
  • Provide guidance to field personnel as required on the various topics associated with personnel and process safety incidents or near misses. This includes but may not be limited to:
  • Incident classification according to the Injury, Illness and Health Loss (IIHL) Reporting Manuals, Part I (Personnel Safety) and Part III (Process Safety)
  • HURT Level for Personnel Safety Incidents
  • Care and Case Management, including guidance on medical clinics
  • Notification Requirements
  • Liase with Imperial Occupational Health Department personnel
  • Regularly travel to sites to engage with field personnel to support in safety system implementation, or support with investigations.
  • Provide support for entering incidents and near misses into the incident database system (Impact), including QA/QC of entries
  • Evaluate, develop, implement, and maintain company safety practices and standards designed to achieve safe execution of work activities. This may include:
  • Updating standards owned by the Safety team
  • Proposing changes to other procedures or standards with safety-related content, including requesting review/approval of any proposed changes.
  • Providing day to day support concerning clarifications on various safety procedures and standards.
  • Interpretation of OHS/Provincial Safety Regulations
  • Support field personnel by fielding questions related to Industrial Hygiene. Provide clarity as needed or liase with IH specialist
  • Participate in the development and issuing of regular Safety communications to field personnel (e.g., bulletins)

Items listed in order of importance, most important functions at the top of the list:

  • Receive calls from field personnel when an incident occurs in order to provide immediate support for care and case management
  • Consult with standards and other specialists to determine appropriate corporate classification of incidents
  • Provide in-field and remote coaching and support on the correct application of safety management tools
  • Provide guidance to field personnel on incident notification, investigation, and sharing
  • Maintain safety standards and procedures

About you

Skills and Qualifications

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to concisely convey ideas at all levels
  • Knowledge and skills with computer applications, particularly MS Office suite of tools
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Knowledge of Oil & Gas facilities, particularly bulk fuel terminal and pipeline operations
  • Knowledge of construction industry
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards
  • Practice in implementing safety procedures and standards within an industrial setting
  • Safety Professional training.
