We are looking for an HVAC Technician to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch (RPPM) in Ottawa. Key Responsibilities:
The HVAC Technician provides repair, maintenance, and installation services for a variety of equipment and building systems in various facilities in the National Capital Region, including:

  1. Chillers
  2. HVAC
  3. Refrigeration systems
  4. Energy management systems
  5. Instrumentation and control systems
The HVAC Technician’s maintenance activities are carried out in response to emergency situations, malfunctions, and as part of regular preventative maintenance programs. He/she is responsible for equipment and control systems during emergency call-ins, scheduled overtime, and power shutdowns. He/she must comply with and maintain government refrigerant regulations and records. Our HVAC Technician typically works a 37.5-hour work week with only the occasional need for overtime – but no shift work, and no regularly scheduled weekends. Screening Criteria:
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education:
- Secondary School Diploma according to provincial standards.
- Valid Ontario 313A-Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic or an equivalent Inter-Provincial Red Seal Journeymen’s Certificate of Qualification.
- Ozone depletion certificate.
- Completion of Working at Heights and Elevated Work Platform training could be considered as an asset. For information on certificates and diplomas issued abroad, please see Degree equivalency.

Experience:
- Significant and recent experience in servicing/installing/troubleshooting refrigeration and air conditioning systems and components such as chillers, air handing units, fan coils as well as packaged air conditioning systems;
- Significant and recent experience Building Automation System;
- Significant and recent experience in Control systems such as Direct Digital Controls, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Variable Frequency Drives, Pneumatic devices including troubleshooting and performing On-board diagnostics tests of electronic and solid-state devices; and
- Significant and recent experience in building heating and cooling systems.
* Significant is defined as: minimum of two (2) to six (6) years of experience.*
* Recent is defined as: within the last two (2) years.

Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

Assessment Criteria:
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies:
- Solid knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning in accordance with current codes and standards.
- Solid knowledge of safety practices and procedures relevant to the trade.
- Solid knowledge of energy management systems (DDC, PLC, Frequency drives, and process controllers).
- Solid ability to read mechanical schematics/blueprints and interpret manufacturer’s specifications.
