Job description

Two Rivers Gallery, the centre for art and creativity located on the unceded ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh in Prince George, BC, is hiring a Curatorial Assistant for the summer. The Curatorial Assistant will work in an active curatorial department and play an important role in its day-to-day activities. With extensive training, the Curatorial Assistant will focus on two areas of activity: Exhibitions and Collections Management.

Under the supervision and guidance of the Curator, the main tasks of the Curatorial Assistant will include the following:

  1. Prepare and manage a traveling exhibition touring to three satellite communities;
  2. Assist curatorial staff with crating and uncrating, deinstalling & installing gallery exhibitions;
  3. Assist in catalogue production;
  4. Prepare and lead a number of tours for French language summer youth camp;
  5. Support Curatorial staff in the development of Permanent Collection-based exhibition;
  6. Assist in the photography of artwork;
  7. Contribute to permanent collection information on the database (artist biographies etc.);
  8. Coordinate shipping of artwork;
  9. Travel to remote exhibition venues to assist in installation;
  10. Develop and install exhibition labels, texts, and signage;
  11. Plan and coordinate opening receptions and other programs as assigned;
  12. Manage contractual relationships with artists and venues;
  13. Upgrade storage of artwork in the collection to archivally sound standards;
  14. Assist in the research, planning, and installation of an exhibition of artwork from the permanent collection;
  15. Produce a final report;
  16. Other duties as required.

This position is suitable for an Undergraduate/Graduate Student of Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or related fields whose first language is French. A familiarity with visual art and the operation of an art gallery is important. A good working knowledge of databases is an asset. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required, and good communication and research skills are essential.

This position is a full-time, 16-week contract from May through August 2025. Hours of work will average 37.5 hours per week.

Rate of pay: $17.40 / hour

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 7.5 hrs/day, 37.5 hrs/week; some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
