The Opportunity:

WSP’s NCRA M&E Property & Buildings Team is currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Coop Student to join our Electrical team, located at the Queensview office in Ottawa. Reporting to an Electrical Manager, the Electrical Coop Student will be responsible for some design, drawings with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit 3D modeling, and BIM360 services on various Property & Buildings projects.

A day in the life:

  • Basic electrical design, and calculation for power distribution, control, communication, lighting, fire alarm and security systems for transportation projects;
  • Preparing AutoCAD drawings and Revit 3D modeling for electrical systems;
  • Learning building electrical engineering requirement, exposure to Ontario Building Code (OBC), Electrical Safety Authority, and IEEE standards for Building and Site design;
  • Perform individually or as a team member with electrical discipline and under direct supervision of engineers and project managers;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Enrolled in Electrical Engineering program;
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member to deliver comprehensive designs and meet the deadlines;
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit 3D;
  • Interpersonal skills with team members and other disciplines;
  • Familiarity with software used for engineering studies - arc flash, load, fault and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc. is an asset.
  • Enthusiastic, eager to learn, detail oriented, organized, hard worker, and team player attitude;
  • Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;

To qualify for this role, you must be eligible for Canadian Federal Government Enhanced Reliability clearance. This is a mandatory requirement to work with some of our clients.
