Job Overview
JENSEN HUGHES has an exciting career opportunity for a Fire Protection Systems Designer/Drafter. The position is based in our office in Ottawa, Ontario.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional CAD engineering services, including AutoCAD drafting, Revit modeling, and building code consulting under the guidance of an experienced consultant.
- Develop, maintain, and manage Revit models, ensuring accuracy and consistency while creating and overseeing Revit families and components.
- Collaborate with external disciplines to coordinate design efforts, identifying and resolving model clashes and conflicts.
- Work towards becoming the Revit BIM Lead, overseeing modeling, content creation, coordination, and training while ensuring adherence to BIM standards and best practices.
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings for fire protection systems, conduct basic building code analyses, and contribute to various engineering projects.
- Design schematics and production-level outputs for sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, special suppression, and fire alarm systems.
- Interpret rough sketches and specifications from engineers and technicians, producing multiple design iterations for stakeholder review.
- Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, drawings, and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of AutoCAD experience with Revit Certified Professional Certification.
- Proven experience in designing and laying out fire protection systems for large industrial projects (e.g., battery manufacturing plants, data centers, warehouses).
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction technology, and industry best practices.
- Self-motivated problem solver with strong analytical and reasoning skills.
- Proficiency in personal computing, including email, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics applications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, business correspondence, presentations, and procedural documents.
- Passion for advancing fire protection safety and exceeding client expectations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, embracing professional challenges and desire to be an integral part of the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes.
