AHS is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner (NP) - to join the dynamic Neonatal Intensive Care Unit multidisciplinary team based out of the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH), Calgary. We are looking for applicants who have effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as work collaboratively with patients and families as partners in care. This position will support the Edwards Family NICU at the ACH and at times may be asked to work ad hoc at other NICUs within the Calgary zone. The ACH NICU is a dynamic 14 bed level IV medical/surgical neonatal intensive care unit that cares for high risk neonates with complex medical, acute neurological and surgical concerns from all over southern Alberta. With no maternal care at ACH all patients are referred from other centers to access our specialized care. The NP will manage patients admitted to the NICU and collaborate with the NICU team including Physicians, nursing staff and leaders, allied health team members, subspecialists, and ACH administration to ensure seamless transfers into and out of the NCU for this complex, high needs, patient group. You will provide comprehensive, holistic and patient-family centered care and contribute to patient care through advanced clinical practice, leadership, consultations, referrals, education and research. In addition, you will provide nursing education and leadership and will be involved in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and program development related to NICU patients. The NP requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team, physicians, and all members of the interdisciplinary team and will demonstrate skills in the areas of organization, critical thinking, conflict resolution, advanced problem solving, interdisciplinary leadership and change management.
Description:As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Nurse practitioner degree in the neonatology specialty. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider. Commitment to Alberta Health Services Vision, Mission, Core Values and Goals.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience working with surgical neonates. Previous experience working with neonates requiring neurological critical care interventions. Microsoft Office Suite knowledge. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider (PALS). Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidence-based practice. Experience with program development. Quality Improvement certification (i.e. Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt or equivalent).
