Job description

The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house, assisting and empowering parolees to integrate into the community while managing their risk and promoting self-sufficiency and independence.

Hours:

  • 11:30 am to 11:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday

Education/Certifications:

  • Must possess a High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months of education in a related field (Criminology, Sociology, Social Justice, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, etc.) required.
  • Clear TB Skin test required.
  • Occupational First Aid level 1 or equivalent.
  • Enhanced reliability clearance through Correctional Service of Canada.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.
  • Previous work experience in community corrections, probation, or parole is an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals struggling with addiction, substance abuse issues, and related behavioral challenges required.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work with a diverse clientele possessing a range of needs and barriers.
  • Ability to discern baseline behaviours and any deviations concerning substance use or mental health.
  • Must possess adequate typing skills and be computer literate.
  • Must have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be confident in ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention skills.
  • Must be punctual, organized, and able to adjust to operational demands.
  • Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards.
  • Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural differences.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean driver's abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
