The People and Organization Development division of People Strategies is responsible for the development of long-term strategy such as the People Plan, a holistic long-term plan that engages and supports employees to transform the SFU experience. This Office encompasses Learning and Development, Organizational Health and Well-Being, HR operations and administrative services and overall HR Business Partner Client Services. About the Role

The Associate Director, Leadership Development and Employee Experience is responsible for developing and executing university-wide learning, leadership, and employee experience programs that foster professional growth, engagement, and a culture of recognition. This role oversees strategic initiatives to enhance staff development, design leadership training, and implement recognition frameworks that celebrate contributions and achievements. The position leads program execution, including learning management systems, and professional development funds, while managing external vendors and internal stakeholders. Additionally, this role monitors program impact through key performance indicators, refining initiatives to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in organizational development, education, human resources, business administration, or a related field (master's is an asset) and 5 years of experience in designing and leading large-scale learning and development programs, ideally in a higher education or comparable setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong understanding of adult learning theories, instructional design methodologies, and technology-based learning solutions.
  • Familiarity with higher education accreditation standards and their implications for staff development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and strategic and project management skills.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to supervise and manage multidisciplinary staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
  • Proficiency in using LMS platforms, performance analytics tools, and HRIS.
  • Certification in learning and development (e.g., CPLP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar) is considered an asset.
  • Experience designing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training programs is considered an asset.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
