About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the safety and health of the Mine Maintenance team.
- Adherence to corporate and site-specific standards and statutory legislation as applicable to machinery and related work.
- Overall maintenance responsibility for the Magino mobile equipment assets, comprised of drills, haul trucks, shovels, excavators, loaders, graders, dozers, water trucks, fuel/lube trucks, other support equipment and light vehicles.
- Direction of the maintenance function in accordance with agreed upon maintenance strategies and work management practices, with an emphasis on planned maintenance and schedule execution.
- Assessing current maintenance strategies, tactics, and plans for mobile equipment; making recommendations and implementing changes as necessary, implementing industry best practices aligned with reliability centered maintenance, employing RCA and action plans to deliver target equipment availability.
- Developing annual operating budgets for the maintenance of mobile equipment, with subsequent budget ownership and responsibility for cost management against targets for the section.
- Leading capital replacement, new fleet additions, upgrade and overhaul projects for mobile equipment, including equipment life-cycle analysis, project motivation and execution, and capital budget management.
- Management of maintenance workshops, facilities, and tools for the section.
- Personnel management for the section, including hiring, development, and discipline.
- Providing values-based leadership to direct reports and contractor employees, leading by example, building a high-performance culture and team.
- Managing service agreements and vendors for specialized contracted maintenance services, and accountable for weekly coordination with account managers of key OEM partners.
- Communicate planned maintenance activities, and estimated return to service dates for down equipment with the mine operations department to ensure the long-term viability of the fleet and optimum operational performance.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with department heads, engineers, shift supervisors, direct reports, trainers, safety, and environmental personnel, mine services, etc.
- Ensure that safety, environment, and property damage incidents are thoroughly investigated, notification procedures and protocols are followed, and recommendations implemented. Take corrective action where necessary to address non-compliance.
- Identify, encourage, and manage training requirements / development opportunities for the employees and direct reports. Work closely with the training, safety, and environmental departments to ensure that training requirements are being met.
- Provide effective feedback to direct reports and other assigned personnel on performance and expectations, on a consistent and on-going basis.
- Conduct employee reviews in a fair and honest manner and assist direct reports in resolving disputes / concerns, and other employee issues in a timely manner; or submit them to senior management for action.
- Provide direction for employees to grow and develop while motivating them to reach their maximum potential. Encourage employees to be fully engaged and understand how to contribute to the overall success of Magino.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Possess an interprovincial trade qualification or degree in mechanical engineering (Required)
- G Class Driver’s License (Required)
- 10+ years related maintenance experience.
- 5+ years mine maintenance supervisory experience, some open pit and/or heavy earthworks construction experience highly desirable.
- A Degree in mechanical engineering and/or a recognized certification in a mechanical trade is desirable
- Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong familiarity with the Magino mobile mine fleet (Komatsu haul trucks, loaders, shovels, and excavators, Sandvik drills, Liebherr dozers, other support equipment and light vehicles).
- Thorough working knowledge of efficient maintenance techniques and procedures that conform to applicable Company, Provincial and Federal safety regulations.
- Knowledgeable in related computer applications and proficient in their use.
- Familiar with reliability centred maintenance, and defect elimination programs.Strong organizational and time management skills /ability to continually prioritize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Detail-oriented with both the ambition and willingness to dive into the details necessary to accomplish responsibilities and solve problems.
- Effective leadership and the ability to build a strong team culture.
- Proven record of quality work and execution of projects and plans
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be field oriented and able to work in mines and exploration environments.
