Job Overview

My client, a leader in confectionary, baking and general food manufacturing, is currently looking for a dynamic and passionate leader to fill the position of Director of Manufacturing Engineering. This position requires building strong working relationships across the organization, as well as outside vendors, to effectively solve technical problems and continually improve product quality, yield, cycle times and costs. The Director of Manufacturing Engineering ensures the implementation of Lean Manufacturing best practices within an established Food Manufacturing Environment.

Responsibilities

  1. Define and standardize manufacturing processes implemented within the production site.
  2. Develop and execute strategies that support new product development and new technology integration in production.
  3. Take ownership of equipment procurement processes, researching, sourcing, and recommending purchases that support production requirements and business objectives.
  4. Ability to actualize projects, from inception through to completion, on time and on budget.
  5. Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with key suppliers, always in the objective of improving quality, costs or productivity.
  6. Share expertise and work with suppliers to resolve issues.
  7. Use of Gantt charts to communicate progression with stakeholders.
  8. Ensure performance of the automated production environment, as it pertains to both software and hardware, by implementing the best preventative maintenance methodologies and optimizing existing processes.
  9. Manage projects surrounding new production line development, fitting equipment (new, improvement, or rebuild) into new or existing production lines, and manage the incorporation of software into the existing manufacturing process.
  10. Determine and deploy process optimization programs that yield improvements in quality, cost or productivity.
  11. Track results based on objectives.
  12. Actively participate in information systems projects as it relates to manufacturing engineering.
  13. Manage manufacturing engineering projects and delegate responsibilities adequately.
  14. Maintain a presence on the shop floor, overseeing current projects, communicating with Team Leaders, and defining clear scheduling and objectives for projects.
  15. Implement relevant key performance indicators.
  16. Define targets and execute necessary action plans and projects towards higher operational efficiency.
  17. Research and suggest new technologies for manufacturing engineering, supporting future product launches and growth strategies.
  18. Evaluate and develop next-generation production concepts.

Requirements

  • Work as a Team player

  • Demonstrated expertise in machining processes, lean manufacturing principles, and ERP systems, and Project Management
  • Experience with Automation software
  • CAD and SolidWorks proficiency
  • Lean manufacturing driven mindset
  • Work well under pressure with short timelines
  • Can handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Perform thorough cost/benefit analysis and payback schedule
  • Open to work with both older and new technologies
