Title: Continuous Improvement Process Engineer

Position: Full Time, Exempt

Location: Riverside, CA

Reports to: VP of Operations

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Lead and implement Continuous Improvement (CI) culture throughout the organization while being responsible for the identification, prioritization, and implementation of CI projects and training. Develop sustainable improvements through engagement of a team-based servant leadership approach, strong technical knowledge, and proper use of continuous improvement tools.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote a safety culture and safety awareness within their area of responsibility.
  • Support and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Extensive travel to several operations in the Western US working with plant CI and operations teams to evaluate, develop and implement facilities and work cell CI projects.
  • Under the guidance from the Managing Director, work with other members of the Westfall CI Team to charter new continuous improvement projects.
  • Review process value stream mapping and recommend staffing levels, materials, machines, methods, and performance metrics to ensure an effective operation.
  • Identify and champion opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) improvements, etc.
  • Adhere to all Company and Plant procedures, work rules, and guidelines.
  • Work with Operations to build training content and organize training sessions as needed.
  • Collaborate with outside technical vendors to develop and source possible automation or material conveyance equipment required to improve processes, including sending and evaluating RFQs.
  • Communicate methods, changes, scheduling, etc., as appropriate and required cross-functionally throughout the organization.
  • Support the operation outside of assigned shift hours or on weekends as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in continuous improvement initiatives a plus.
  • Must have strong technical skills in tooling, processing, automation, and/or machines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communications skills – ability to communicate clearly and concisely in multiple media – verbal, written, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced work environment, remain calm under pressure, and adapt to changing schedules as appropriate.
  • Strong computer skills a plus (IQMS preferred and MS Office Suite).
  • Strong knowledge of production operation, including equipment, materials, workflow, etc.
  • Knowledge of Total Quality Systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs infrequently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is usually in an indoor concrete-floored precision machining shop. General noise level can fluctuate from medium to high on a constant basis.
