How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Lead Hand, Conservation Parks & Lands coordinates and oversees the day-to-day operational activities of TRCA’s variety of public-use conservation parks and facilities. This position coordinates and completes general and preventative facility maintenance and contributes to the successful delivery of daily operations and special events.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates operational activities for conservation park, campground, and/or golf course operations according to service standards.
  • Provides site knowledge and recommendations to inform processes focused on enhancing the functionality, safety and financial sustainability of TRCA’s public-use facilities.
  • Coordinates daily programs and participates in program planning and development activities. Recommends new concepts and/or possible program enhancements to the Supervisor.
  • Oversees general facility maintenance and housekeeping duties in indoor spaces.
  • Completes seasonal grounds maintenance and ensures service delivery standards are met.
  • Safely operates fleet vehicles, utility vehicles, small and large equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Completes a seasonal changeover of equipment to ensure that it is either safely stored or readily available for use.
  • Provides training on safe equipment operations for site-related work and projects.
  • Arranges and performs preventative equipment and infrastructure maintenance on a regular basis.
  • Completes daily site health and safety checks and leads licensed professionals through monthly, semi-annual and/or annual facility inspections. Documents all inspections. Carries out or facilitates the completion of required work. Completes follow-up and evaluation.
  • Participates in and/or leads the daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification, and emergency planning.

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses):

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Facility Management, Turf Management, Resources Management, Business, or related field of study.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a related field coordinating teams.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies:

  • Demonstrated skill in facility maintenance, including basic carpentry and construction, minor plumbing, and landscaping.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations.
  • Understanding and application of basic mathematical functions (e.g., adding, subtracting, measuring, money computation).
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs.
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions.
  • Collaborates with others to focus on objectives and effectively delegates work within a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS Teams, WebEx, and SharePoint.
