About the Role
We are excited to announce the creation of a new role: Occupational Health & Safety Advisor. This position is integral to fostering a safe and healthy workplace, aiming to embed a robust safety culture within our facility. The ultimate goal is to ensure every employee understands that all accidents and injuries are preventable.
As the Occupational Health & Safety Advisor, you will be actively engaged in the field, mentoring, coaching, and training employees to prioritize safety in their daily tasks. You’ll make regular safety contacts with employees, identify challenges they face, and develop safe work procedures to overcome these obstacles.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Champion a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
- Act as a responsive resource for employees’ safety concerns and inquiries.
- Coach, mentor, and train employees on safe work practices.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to meet and exceed safety standards.
- Assist in the development and revision of safety manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits; prepare weekly/month-end safety reports.
- Develop and implement safety awareness campaigns and programs.
- Support the creation and delivery of a comprehensive Rail Safety Training Program.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, providing detailed analysis and preventive recommendations.
- Lead and participate in safety meetings, offering compliance solutions.
- Conduct site inspections and review safety inspection reports.
- Provide operational personnel with guidance and resources to maintain safety standards.
- Obtain and maintain an Advanced Occupational First Aid (OFA) certificate.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation to ensure compliance with CSO certifications.
QualificationsThis Role is a Great Fit If You Have (Must-Have Qualifications)
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Health & Safety roles.
- In-depth knowledge of Return-to-Work programs and strategies.
- Strong understanding of applicable regulations, bylaws, and utility protections.
- Proven experience implementing health and safety management systems and programs.
- Knowledge of occupational hygiene principles.
- Hands-on experience in operations supervision, auditing, and incident analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate, lead change, and work collaboratively.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and digital literacy skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification (or working towards) as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent.
- Knowledge of fleet and driver safety programs.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, training, and coaching skills.
