Job description

Large buildings and infrastructure General Contractor is seeking an Estimating Manager with experience across building projects to join their team in Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC. The Estimating Manager reports directly to the Chief Estimator and will have in-depth knowledge of conceptual estimating, budgeting, tendering, proposal submission, and construction methodology. Salary range $150,000 - $190,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

Responsibilities of Estimating Manager

  • Bidding and pre-construction estimating and the financial results in partnership with the Chief Estimator.
  • All aspects of the estimate and as the Estimating Manager take on more complex and detailed estimates and bids.
  • Prepare and coordinate estimates as required.
  • Compile and track analytics relating to project estimating pursuits.
  • Managing, training, and mentoring other estimators and the profit/loss performance of the estimated projects.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring in planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, and training estimating personnel.
  • The Estimating Manager will have oversight of the buildings estimating team while being mentored by the Chief Estimator to further develop leadership skills and approach to pursuits.
  • Provide insight and innovative construction solutions to ensure the successful execution of various projects, such as education facilities, hospitals and health care centers, office buildings, warehouse and distribution centers, and mixed-use facilities.
  • Further hone skills operating under various delivery methods including Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Management, and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Estimating Manager

  • Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts.
  • Excellent technical, organizational, managerial, and planning skills.
  • Team leader with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with well-developed communication and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to assist in determining bid strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Experience and Qualifications of Estimating Manager

  • Post-secondary education (Engineering degree or diploma).
  • A minimum of 8-12 years of construction estimating experience.
  • Leadership responsibility in commercial/buildings estimating, including schools, retail, office buildings, etc.
  • Proven ability to lead a high-performing team.
  • Comfortable working with both internal and external clients, customers, and key stakeholders.
  • Conceptual Estimating and Building Information Modeling experience is a plus.
  • Expert-level knowledge in estimating systems, bid preparation, and execution.
