Summary:
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, Mining, the Shift Supervisor is tasked with the general supervision, direction, and meeting the objectives of a specific mining project or assignment, through the safe, efficient use of the equipment and teams. The position will act as a liaison between the employees and the management staff, as well as acting as the physical presence representing the company at a worksite.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.
Key Focus:
- Provide general supervision on mining related projects and/or assignments.
- Liaise with the client on all matters pertaining to the project, and report to the Operations Manager as required.
- Supervise and manage the attendance, organizing daily production from forecasts and allocated tasks to all available pieces of equipment and personnel to ensure the efficient utilization of the teams and meeting daily targets.
- Ensure that qualified personnel perform tasks requiring authorization, and that equipment is utilized in accordance with the design specifications and correct operating procedures.
- Manage each shift from start to finish, planning the teams to ensure sufficient personnel are available each shift, that work is up to contract specifications and standards meeting or exceeding the requirements.
- Address all team and team leader issues promptly, and consult with the Operations Manager and Human Resources to manage employee relations issues.
- Coordinate with Team Leaders and the support group (HSE/HR) to ensure that staff are competent, have required skills and training to carry out day-to-day activities.
- Identify and mitigate risks and hazards through regular inspections and behavioral observations. Work with Team Leads and HSE department to ensure that standards for safe-working procedures and conditions are observed.
- Collaborate with the General Manager, Operations Manager, and any Team Lead to resolve areas of concern and make recommendations to improve productivity, solve issues, and enhance efficiency.
- Coordinate with the Fleet/Maintenance department to ensure servicing schedules are anticipated in order to minimize any disruption to production.
- Ensure the completion of all required tasks during turnover, while communicating any ongoing tasks and issues to the incoming Shift Supervisor.
- Act as a backup to the Operations Manager in their absence.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
- A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
- CSTS/ OSSA or CSO or BSO is required.
- Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- Experience in Dayforce and/or SAP is considered an asset.
- At least 5+ years of verifiable experience in a supervisory role in an industrial/production environment, with relevant experience in a production environment relating to Mining, Civil Construction, and Heavy Equipment Operation.
- Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as in a team environment. Balances both team and individual responsibilities.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrates continuous learning through cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills.
- Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
This is a full time temporary position located north of Fort McMurray, AB on Syncrude site.
Shift schedule: 6 on, 6 off, days and nights are required; 12 hour shifts.
