Our client, a well-established organization with 46 years of history serving Saskatchewan, is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Controller to lead their accounting and finance functions. Specializing in excavation, demolition, road building, and concrete repair services, this industry leader is known for its commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. This position is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and efficient financial operations to support the organization’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Accounting Oversight: Manage all accounting and finance functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll processing.
  • Reconciliations and Analysis: Prepare account reconciliations and provide detailed analyses and reports as needed.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all accounting practices comply with ASPE and oversee tax compliance and remittances.
  • Fixed Assets Management: Track and report fixed assets while maintaining accurate records.
  • Internal Controls: Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash and working capital to meet operational needs.
  • Year-End Review: Collaborate with external accountants to manage year-end reviews and audits.
  • Technology Proficiency: Utilize QuickBooks Online for day-to-day operations and leverage advanced MS Excel skills for reporting and analysis.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation or equivalent accounting qualification (preferred).
  • Proven experience in a Controller or senior accounting role.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and strong knowledge of MS Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis).
  • Thorough understanding of ASPE and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills to handle deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
