Position Summary:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Security Systems Application Specialist is responsible for executing the supply and installation of various security system projects. This role involves multiple facets of project execution including engineering design, programming, commissioning, and client training. Strong leadership skills, time management, and organization are required, along with the ability to liaise with all levels of the client experience. This position commands flexible working hours as per project requirements and entails working with external parties (consultants, commissioning agents, contractors, clients, etc.) to ensure project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Involved with project turnover meetings with the Project Manager and sales to gather all information needed to conduct Engineering.
  • Assist with design and development of panel layouts, network layouts, and wiring diagrams per customer and/or company standards utilizing Ainsworth engineering tools as required.
  • Assist in selecting materials including access control modules and peripheral devices to meet project requirements, specifications, codes, and customer standards.
  • Develop the project commissioning checklist for project startup, checkout, and commissioning.
  • Ensure high PM/Customer satisfaction, compliance with scope & specification, and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Program and functionally test all components within a complete security system installation, including Card Access Control, CCTV, Real-Time Locating System, and Intrusion Detection.
  • Functionally test all programming to ensure compliance with specified sequences of operation and that system performance aligns with industry standards and project specs.
  • Maintain personal accessibility and communicate effectively with field technicians, office sales, Ainsworth employees, and clients/vendors.
  • Work with the Project Manager to ensure timely issuance of as-built documents and any project-specific closeout documents required by specification or contract.
  • Maintain knowledge of various security solutions including hardware, software, tools, and applications.
  • Analyze and advise owners and contractors regarding appropriate security application strategy and available options.
  • Locate and use resources on issues that are beyond personal technical expertise.
  • Actively participate in team and Engineering meetings, contributing input and feedback constructively.
  • Work within a cross-functional environment to drive improvements in company processes and methods.
  • Establish and maintain positive team relationships with co-workers while providing and accepting feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Security System Installation, Design, and Commissioning.
  • Progressive experience in a technical role within the integrated security or low voltage industry is required.
  • Strong understanding of Security System Solutions to appraise existing systems components, evaluate site conditions, and recommend applicable system or technical solutions.
  • Experience working with consultants and contractors, coordinating integrated projects.
  • Knowledgeable regarding governing building, electrical, and mechanical codes, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards.
  • Excellent understanding of the entire Building Technology offering.
  • Strong leadership skills to support direct and indirect reports and broader business directives.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, technical, and financial abilities.
  • Working experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint software programs and energy-related tools.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex, fast-paced environment with multiple projects and clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and write in both French and English is considered an asset.
  • Vendor Certification in low voltage systems is preferred.
  • Valid TQ certification preferred.
  • Previous experience leading installations and design at the site level preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Background check and security clearance.
