Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  2. Installing, modifying and maintaining various electrical systems and components such as, electrical wiring, electrical panels, switches, boxes, receptacles, conduits, circuits, lighting, alarms, etc. using a variety of hand and power tools.
  3. Performing wire pulls and connecting wires to circuit breakers, or other components.
  4. Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices.
  5. Diagnosing and repairing electrical problems, failures or malfunctioning electrical systems and components, such as electric controls, circuits, switches etc., using testing equipment and related tools.
  6. Analyzing and interpreting blue prints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new systems.
  7. Coordinating with foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  8. Maintaining and submitting all required written materials, including, but not limited to time cards, work orders, etc.
  9. Ordering/purchasing required materials from suppliers and vendors as required.
  10. Obtaining materials and equipment to ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained in order to complete appropriately complete installations, repairs, etc.
  11. Responding to routine and emergency calls during and after hours for repairs and service.
  12. Informing coworkers of the status of work orders to ensure work activities are prioritized and completed on schedule.
  13. Training and directing the work of Apprentice Electricians as required.
  14. Working in accordance with the electrical code and any applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
  15. Maintaining any assigned vehicle, equipment, and/or tool in an organized, professional and cleanly manner.
  16. Coordinating with other sub-trades, suppliers, engineers, etc. to ensure work is carried out effectively.
  17. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following:

Experience

  • Experience working in the construction industry considered an asset.

Education/Licenses/Certificates

  • Electrician’s license (309A) required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary education in electrical techniques or related field considered an asset.
  • Working at heights certificate required.
  • Standard first aid/CPR certificate required.
  • WHMIS certificate required.
  • Lift certification required.
  • Arc flash training required.
  • Electrical Safety Code update courses required.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment and systems used in the electrical trade.
  • Strong knowledge of the electrical code.
  • Working knowledge of the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of related sub trades.

Skills

  • Strong math skills.
  • Strong problem-solving decision making skills.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.

Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, specifications, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and give and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor working environment with regular exposure to construction sites and various weather and temperature conditions.
  • Manual dexterity required to effectively use and operate all required equipment and tools.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, push, pull and reach over head for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects, exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work productively under limited supervision.
  • Overtime and travel may be required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 44 per week
