Job Description:

Senior Structural Engineer (Metro Viaduct / Creek Crossing - Design)

Dubai, UAE

Parsons is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer (Metro Viaduct / Creek Crossing - Design) to join our Project Management Consultant (PMC) team for a landmark infrastructure project. This role involves overseeing the design, construction, and quality assurance of viaduct structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international standards, and safety regulations.

The Viaduct Engineer will serve as the client’s representative, managing contractors and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality viaduct structures that meet operational and aesthetic requirements. This position demands strong technical expertise, effective project management skills, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale viaduct projects in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Be Doing:

Design Review and Validation

  • Review and approve viaduct designs, including structural calculations, drawings, and specifications, ensuring alignment with project requirements and international standards (e.g., Eurocodes, ACI, BS).
  • Provide technical input during the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design stages to ensure structural integrity, durability, and constructability.

Construction Oversight

  • Monitor viaduct construction activities, including pier, girder, and deck construction, ensuring compliance with approved designs and quality standards.
  • Oversee methods such as precast, post-tensioning, or cast-in-situ construction techniques and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify progress and address any deviations from the approved plans.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Develop and implement quality control plans for viaduct materials and construction processes, including concrete mix designs, steel reinforcement, and bearings.
  • Oversee material testing, including concrete strength, load testing, and durability assessments, ensuring compliance with specifications.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure that all viaduct construction activities comply with local safety regulations and international standards.
  • Address potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

Coordination and Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary liaison between the client, contractors, and consultants for viaduct-related matters.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., geotechnical, civil, and transportation teams) to ensure seamless integration of the viaduct with other project components.
  • Facilitate coordination with local authorities and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Review and approve technical documentation, including as-built drawings, inspection reports, and construction records.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to stakeholders, highlighting risks, solutions, and key achievements.

Risk Management

  • Identify risks related to viaduct design and construction, such as ground conditions, structural stability, or material shortages, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Address and resolve technical issues promptly to avoid project delays or cost overruns.

Handover and Maintenance Support

  • Ensure that all viaduct structures are delivered to the client in compliance with design and operational requirements.
  • Provide input into maintenance strategies and operational guidelines for viaduct structures.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 15–20 years of design experience in viaduct design, construction, and quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a PMC or client representative role.
  • Proven design experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly viaducts for metro or transportation systems and water crossing bridges.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools such as STAAD Pro, ETABS, or MIDAS Civil.
  • Strong understanding of viaduct construction methods, including precast, post-tensioning, and cast-in-situ techniques.
  • Knowledge of international design codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, ACI, BS).
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities to manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
