Key Areas of Responsibility:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, facilitating and coordinating the Cementation Training Program at the project:
- Administer training program, based on the Ontario Common Core Modules for Underground Hardrock Mining.
- Administer written exams for each module of the Ontario Common Core.
- Conduct a review of the Cementation Canada Inc. workforce to determine the workers' training needs.
- Conduct Job Observations on each worker based on the worker's training requirements and sign the worker off on the appropriate training modules.
- Register each worker who requires training, based on each worker's requirements.
- Coordinate or facilitate the required training for workers in modules for which the Safety/Training Coordinator has not yet achieved.
- Develop a WHMIS Training Program and train all newly hired employees as required and perform refresher training on a yearly basis.
- File all the training documentation within each individual worker's file.
- Develop a computer log and file all completed modules for each worker within the log.
- Conduct a refresher on a yearly basis, of the Cementation Canada Inc. Basic Health and Safety Policy Booklet with all the appropriate workers.
- Review risk register and ensure risk assessments are completed. Facilitate team based risk assessments.
- Develop written job procedures.
- Review with the appropriate workers, and record training, and keep on file all of the written job procedures.
- Conduct Safety meetings, which would pertain to training and/or refreshers.
- Issue task cards, e.g. Blasting tickets, Equipment Operator, WHMIS.
- Coordinate the training for each Supervisor in the Supervisory Common Core, and provide Supervisor Orientation on new hired or promoted supervisors.
- Provide site Safety Supervision if required, or relief for project supervisors on a temporary basis.
- Coordinate First Aid and C.P.R. Training and refresher training for the Supervisors and Superintendents.
- Assist site management with developing site safety policies and procedures. Review all policies and procedures with the Safety Manager before implementation.
- Assist site management in resolving all safety and training concerns.
- Keep abreast of any changes in the Ontario Common Core Training by communicating with the various governmental agencies.
- Attend any required training courses appropriate to the position or conferences related to the Ontario Common Core.
- Other duties as assigned.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure full understanding and compliance with company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements.
- Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Fully supports and actively participates in the team safety program based on culture and innovation.
- Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect, or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is not used and communicated to the supervisor.
- Work closely with other crew members to create and maintain a synergy required to accomplish the shift line-up in the cycle.
- Ensure applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied at all times for all such work.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.
- Utilize all safety systems as specified within the site safety management system.
Pre-Employment Qualifications:
- Pass pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing.
- Criminal Record Check (if applicable).
- Relevant College or University Education.
- Train the Trainer.
- Ontario Common Core Modules for modules being trained.
- Supervisory Common Core.
- 10-15 years of experience, preferably in the mining industry.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Fall Arrest.
- Lifesaver TM-60 (self-rescuer).
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and other stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Possess a strong understanding of confidentiality.
- Able to work in a team environment, be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Self-critical of own work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
