Duties: As part of the vegetation management team, you will support a wide range of projects that aim to maintain and improve ecological integrity throughout Jasper National Park. Duties include:

  1. Actively managing non-native vegetation using a variety of integrated techniques, including prevention methods, manual control, and herbicide application.
  2. Supporting restoration and reclamation activities related to invasive vegetation management, wildfire protection, and wildlife habitat improvement.
  3. Coordinating vegetation fieldwork in front country and back country locations.
  4. Monitoring vegetation trends using established protocols.
  5. Assisting with supervising and training seasonal staff.

Minimum Requirements:

EDUCATION:

  1. Stream 1 (EG-02): Minimum completion of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences.
  2. Stream 2 (EG-03): Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized university or college with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience in travelling or working in wilderness areas.
  2. Experience using a variety of data/sample collection equipment.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of terrestrial environment, vegetation and wildlife characteristics.

ABILITIES: Ability to follow procedures and protocols for data/sample collection.

PERSONAL SUITABILITY: Exercises sound judgment, Communicates effectively, Takes responsibility.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Reliability Status security clearance, Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver’s license.
