Reporting jointly to the Vice-President Academic on all academic matters and to the Vice-President People, Equity and Inclusion on matters related to equity and employee experience, Faculty Relations leads employer relations with the SFU Faculty Association bargaining unit and directs and administers all employment-related processes associated with the faculty career life cycle.

About the Role

The Bargaining Analyst serves a key role during negotiations between the University and the Simon Fraser University Faculty Association (SFUFA) on renewals and changes to the Collective Agreement with faculty. The position works with the Executive Director, Faculty Relations and the Director, Faculty Relations Systems on the collection, organization, and analysis of information about all aspects of the University's academic personnel functions and implementation of various bargaining outcomes. In supporting leadership, the role will integrate best practices on aspects of the University's academic personnel functions in general and business processes, policy, and data needs. Additionally, the position streamlines business processes, collaborates with IT, Finance (Payroll/Budget), HR (Compensation, Pensions and Benefits) teams and IRP on bargaining-related projects, and ensures compliance with faculty agreements. By conducting statistical analyses, preparing reports for senior administrators, and responding to internal and external data requests, this position plays a vital role in supporting strategic decision-making.

Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in Business Administration or other relevant discipline with four years of experience in a complex public sector environment, including experience in salary and benefit administration, policy analysis and interpretation, financial administration, project management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Excellent understanding of labour relations, collective bargaining processes, and employment legislation, particularly within the post-secondary or public sector. Knowledge of university governance, academic policies, and human resources best practices. Excellent knowledge of research methodologies and statistical analysis. Excellent spreadsheet, database, and enterprise level financial systems abilities (e.g., Peoplesoft). Excellent strategic business planning and implementation skills. Excellent leadership, consensus building, and change management skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and conflict management skills. Excellent financial management and modeling skills. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment exercising mature judgment and a high level of tact, diplomacy, and discretionary judgment. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise diplomacy and discretionary judgment. Ability to work collaboratively and consensually with cross-functional teams representing various constituencies within and outside the university. Ability to lead in consultative decision-making and to achieve consensus among stakeholders representing diverse and conflicting interests. Ability to work on several major projects under way at any one time based on an understanding and appreciation of the importance and priority attached to each project. Ability to independently set and accomplish goals, establish priorities, and meet critical deadlines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external and internal professionals as well as senior leaders across the University.

Additional Information

The assignment end date is one year from the start date. The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
