Job Summary -
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Shop Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical mind with assembly background and experience in a warehouse environment. This role involves fabricating, assembling, and maintaining various products using sewing machines, wood working equipment, plus hand and power tools. The Shop Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Skill Required

Background in manufacturing, assembly, other related production, basic machines - cutting tools and or construction equipment, and must know basic sewing industrial or machines to feel confident learning to develop the skill further.

Involved experience in operations side of shipping out goods and packaging.

Fluent in English

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Working in group production or a workshop.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse setting is preferred.

Physically able and mobile to lift and move minimum 50lbs to waist height or greater.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing tasks as needed.

Experience
Min. 12 months Experience production or sewing or working with equipment in a shop.

Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Other certifications are an asset, please specify.

Additional Experience (as an Asset)

  • Tailor.
  • Wood worker.

Job Responsibilities / Tasks

Working with materials for garments or upholstery:

  • Cutting materials including fabrics and wood.
  • Marking and taking accurate measurements.
  • Sewing with machines and at times by hand.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Packaging (taping/wrapping with care), boxing and shipping.
  • Labeling.
  • Prioritizing.
  • Organization of tasks.
  • Involved in multiple areas of operations.
  • Works safely and uses safety gear provided.
  • Fabricate and assemble components according to specifications and drawings.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist in the organization and maintenance of the warehouse / shop / studio space.
  • Perform quality checks on finished products to ensure they meet required standards.
  • Operate forklifts to move materials and products as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes and efficiency within the shop.

PPE Required, or covers may be provided.
* Safety toe(d) shoes or boots.

* Ability to operate a forklift; certification is a plus but not required at hiring (training may be provided).

Location of our shop will change in 2025 to be closer to Red Deer, please note driving in all weather conditions to be onsite for most shifts, however some admin work or assembly tasks may be work from home as an option.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship.

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour.

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week.
