The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and at the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full-time member of the Division of Vascular Surgery, who has expertise and interest in complex aortic surgery or limb preservation and has a strong academic track record in vascular surgery. This position will be based primarily at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, with some clinical activity at Michael Garron Hospital and North York General Hospital. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2025, or a time convenient to the applicant. This is a clinician-investigator role, associated with 40% protected time for academic activities.
The successful candidate will be a full-time credentialed member of the Division of Vascular Surgery at SHSC, eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, commensurate with their qualifications and academic achievement. The candidate should have substantial experience in providing excellent clinical multidisciplinary care in vascular surgery, with expertise in complex aortic surgery or limb preservation, and a track record in research. Clinically, the successful candidate will manage a broad range of urgent and elective vascular procedures and must work collegially and collaboratively with the healthcare team. The role involves training University of Toronto medical students, surgery residents, and clinical fellows. The successful candidate will conduct clinical research and must possess a graduate degree (Masters, PhD, or equivalent) and documented expertise in their proposed research area. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.
This academic position requires clinical expertise in vascular surgery. The candidate should possess a fellowship and formal certification in vascular surgery and board certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Surgery, or equivalent. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. The Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an academic and clinical focus on complex aortic and limb preservation surgery.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Sunnybrook has an international reputation for clinical and research excellence. The Sunnybrook Research Institute hosts well-established programs in basic, applied, and clinical research, occupying over 250,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art infrastructure with annual peer review grant support of $75 million. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing one of our strategic directions. The Division of Vascular Surgery's strategic directions for research include amputation prevention, advanced limb preservation techniques, complex aortic surgery with emphasis on novel devices, and vascular imaging. The Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook provides all aspects of vascular care, performing at least 550 emergent and elective cases per annum in the operating room and catheterization lab at SHSC, and providing vascular coverage to Michael Garron Hospital and North York General Hospital.
Compensation for this position is primarily via clinical billings with an anticipated income of $300,000.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in complex aortic surgical care or limb preservation, and exceptional inter-professional skills, research, and furthering the divisional and institutional goals of both institutions and the University of Toronto.
