You will be responsible for ensuring 100% building operations, guest safety, and satisfaction from the moment a guest arrives at the hotel until they check out. As a Maintenance person with Best Western Plus Durham Hotel & Conference Centre Oshawa, you are required to supervise all hotel operations to ensure that you consistently maintain standards and procedures, as well as ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service to guests.
Hours: Varies based on hotel occupancy. You must be available during any emergency situations.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain a positive attitude and good communication; uphold excellent grooming standards and be in full uniform at all times.
- Maintain clean and organized work sites.
- Ensure that the building, equipment, and grounds of the hotel are maintained according to hotel policies and procedures.
- Contribute to achieving guest loyalty by exceeding their expectations and providing warm personal service; resolve guest concerns and handle emergencies during the assigned shift.
- Manage basic sanitation requirements and the control and application of relevant chemicals.
- Respond immediately to alarms to determine the exact location and cause and report findings.
- Ensure timely response to maintenance requests for services by guests, employees, and management, with the goal of keeping the maximum number of rooms available for occupancy.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing with colleagues and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Perform preventive maintenance and special projects, including:
- Equipment maintenance: clean, lubricate, change filters, belts, and clean coils.
- Light Electrical: replace bulbs, ballasts, outlets, and switches.
- Light plumbing: plunge toilets, repair or troubleshoot faucets, showers, toilets, and urinals.
- Painting trim, doors, walls, and caulking.
- Drywall repair, texture, and light vinyl repair.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual preventive maintenance on guestrooms, meeting rooms, public areas, and fitness center per checklist, documenting all work performed.
- Comply with hotel security, fire regulations, and all health and safety legislation; actively participate in the Safety program and abide by all injury reporting and safety behavior requirements.
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service at all times.
- Handle guest complaints and comments in a professional manner and provide necessary follow-up to co-workers and managers.
- Support team members in handling guest requests and inquiries to ensure a positive outcome.
- Adhere to and apply all company policies, procedures, and standards, and establish recipe specifications within the maintenance department and the hotel; report any concerns immediately.
- Fulfill responsibilities according to established standards and core practices, with genuine care, attention, and detail, using approved hotel products, tools, and supplies.
- Provide daily communication to management, department heads, and supervisors.
- Review weekly brand standards for any updates or changes with management.
- Maintain responsibility and accountability for the hotel property and the safety of guests and team members; have authority for hotel operations while on duty.
- Maintain adequate inventories of supplies and parts.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of guests and colleagues by maintaining knowledge of crisis and emergency procedures, as well as Fire Panel/Evacuation procedures; ensure every team member is fully trained and able to instruct, direct, and take control in emergency situations.
- Clearly explain to guests and colleagues how to properly operate or use equipment.
- Accurately maintain work-order and other tracking systems.
- Maintain hotel policies and procedures and confidentiality as guided, as well as the code of conduct.
- Provide technical expertise and competence in areas of painting, general maintenance, and repairs of mechanical equipment in both front of house and back of house areas, including kitchen, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Maintain health and safety standards as per Best Western Plus Durham Hotel and Brock Hotels.
- Notify management of any unusual incidents as instructed or deemed necessary regarding operation and/or safety and security of hotel concerns.
