The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety provides supervision and rehabilitation services for adult and young offenders, promotes appropriate and effective policing, and supports community and public safety services throughout Saskatchewan.
The Ministry is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan’s correctional system and facilities, protection of people, natural resources and infrastructure within the province of Saskatchewan. The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is seeking a highly motivated individual who has a strong background in Saskatchewan OHS legislation and practical (field) experience to fill a key position as an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant.
Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health and Safety, this position will promote and ensure ministry compliance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act, The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace including continuous improvements to the ministry's occupational and psychological safety programs.
This position will be located in a correctional centre, where you will support the Ministry by:
To be successful in this position, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current trends, issues, programs, legislation, policies and standards regarding occupational and psychological health, safety and wellness. You will have demonstrated the ability to handle a large and diversified workload with rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
Typically, you will have gained the knowledge and skills required for this position through the completion of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC); and/or diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Significant experience in occupational health and safety as a primary job responsibility is preferred; however, a related degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Although this position is located within the Saskatoon Correctional Centre, the position supports all the divisions within the Ministry.
