What the role is about:
As a Hockey Camp Instructor, you will teach youth skills on and off the ice while creating a positive, memorable, and safe experience for all participants. These camps focus on hockey skill development that will help participants increase confidence and further their lifelong engagement to hockey, sport, and active lifestyles.
Our camps run from July 7th through August 29th. While WinSport will make every effort to accommodate time off requests during the camp season, we will be unable to accommodate time off for camp instructors during our peak of the season which lasts from August 11th through August 29th. You will be responsible for teaching, leading, and participating in various on-ice skills such as skating, puck control, shooting, passing, drills, and games. When not coaching hockey, you will be responsible for teaching and participating in other Summer Camp activities such as dryland training and other sport activities.

What you will be doing:
- Provide leadership, supervision, and instruction to children and youth ranging in age from 4-14 years old both on and off the ice focusing on skill development.
- Build daily lesson plans for a week-long camp to ensure appropriate skill progression.
- Provide group supervision and behavioural management to ensure the safety of participants during all aspects of camp including on-ice/off-ice activities, in dressing rooms, before/after care, lunch, off-site, and on the bus.
- Work as part of a team with other Skate & Hockey School staff including managers, program leads, team leads, instructors, volunteers, arena staff, and other WinSport team members.
- Effectively communicate with participants and parents.
- Provide daily leadership and direction to summer hockey camp volunteers.
- Represent yourself and WinSport in the best way possible while upholding the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
- Attend regular training sessions to ensure current, and effective product delivery.
- Carry out non-teaching duties that relate to program operations: first day check-in, activity set-up, activity take-down, game-day logistics, customer assistance, and administrative duties.
- Always demonstrate safe work practices by adhering to all WinSport policies and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports, and all WinSport guests.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- Availability to attend mandatory training sessions as scheduled, and to work Monday - Friday shifts 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM though the summer until September 1, 2025 is required. Candidates who do not meet this availability requirement will not be considered for a position.
- Background, experience, and passion for the sport of hockey with experience in the areas of playing, teaching, and coaching.
- Experience, background, or training in activities and sports other than Hockey considered an asset.
- Experience working with youth in a sport setting.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification is mandatory.
- NCCP Certifications with Hockey Canada are considered an asset.
- Multisport NCCP Certifications are considered an asset.
- Completed or working towards the completion of a post-secondary education in Education, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sport Administration or related program is considered an asset.
- Experience coaching participants of all ages.
- Experience coaching other sports is considered an asset.
You will be:
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying are frequently performed in this role.
- Ability to participate in sporting activities.
- Maintain a high level of energy throughout the day.
