As a leader in the field, Community Living Toronto offers supports to over 6,000 individuals with an intellectual disability as well as support to their families, including residential and day support, assistance with employment, community support, early childhood services, and respite.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. College diploma in Developmental Service Worker (DSW) or Social Service Worker (SSW) or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and/or ASD.
  3. Prior experience in job training and job development or supervision is considered an asset.
  4. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with high attention to detail in written work, to produce documents and provide information for staff, management, and trainers.
  5. Ability to track, collect, organize, analyze, and report data.
  6. Advanced computer skills to produce documents, reports, databases, presentations, and communications regarding staff training and development.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Manager and Teacher, the developer will provide training and support for students completing their final year of high school. With the help of the Project Search team, they will ensure success during students’ worksite training rotations and/or competitive jobs. Individuals selected for this program will have an individual employment plan, and this role will be responsible for the transitional goals for each selected individual. The Job and Skills developer will also be required to network with internal and external employers to provide job development to graduating students for gainful employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Individual Support: Implements person-centred training plans and techniques to obtain desired job performance and work behaviours within the host businesses. Provides on-site training which enables students to learn skills and job tasks, and integrate naturally into the work site environment and/or business work routine. Acquaints students with work setting, co-workers, supervisors, facilities, building layout, break room, washroom, time clock, etc.
  2. Program Implementation: Communicates student’s training and progress to Project SEARCH stakeholders including Project Search team, employers, family members, and agency personnel. Utilizes existing job/task analyses to systematically train students for jobs/tasks. Works with students, site host representatives, families, Project SEARCH Teacher, Coordinator, agency personnel, and other appropriate parties to problem-solve issues related to training and employment.
