Construction Project Scheduler

Location: Ottawa

Position Description:

Be a part of one of Canada’s top construction companies, with successful growth each year. We are currently looking for a highly-skilled, caring, and safety-focused individual for our client's team. Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, the Scheduler is responsible for the development of baseline, master, and detailed schedules. The Scheduler oversees all scheduling activities and provides project status updates, forecasts, and progress reports.

Responsibilities

Schedule Development:

  1. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive project schedules. Incorporate key milestones, tasks, and dependencies.
  2. Create a high-level master schedule that incorporates the initial CPM schedule and the contractor’s schedule.

Resource Allocation:

  1. Ensure the efficient allocation of resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to support project timelines and deliverables.

Critical Path Analysis:

  1. Identify the critical path of construction projects and assess potential impacts of delays or changes. Develop strategies to optimize project schedules.
  2. Ensure accuracy of project schedules and perform version control.
  3. Monitor project’s progress, including identifying critical activities and reviewing forecasts and progress achieved to date.

Timeline Monitoring:

  1. Continuously monitor project progress against established schedules. Identify potential delays, deviations, or conflicts and propose corrective actions.
  2. Track critical activities and changes to the critical path impacting the project.
  3. Create, monitor, and analyze project schedules in accordance with standard best project practice.

Risk Assessment:

  1. Evaluate potential risks and factors that could impact project schedules. Collaborate with project teams to develop mitigation strategies.
  2. Perform coordination of cross-functional departments to identify project issues, monitor action items, and work with the project manager to ensure resolution.

Schedule Updates:

  1. Regularly update project schedules based on new information, changes, or unforeseen circumstances. Communicate updated schedules to project stakeholders.

Communication:

  1. Facilitate clear and effective communication between project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers regarding schedule expectations and changes.

Reporting:

  1. Generate and distribute regular schedule reports to project managers and stakeholders. Provide insights into schedule performance and potential improvements.
  2. Track, analyze, and report information appropriately, allowing the project team to manage their projects and evaluate weekly reports.

Integration with Project Management:

  1. Collaborate with project managers to align project schedules with overall project objectives, budgets, and quality standards.
  2. Support ongoing projects by working with the project managers and discipline leads on project status, identifying opportunities for improvement, delays, and areas where additional concentration would be required.

Continuous Improvement:

  1. Identify opportunities to enhance scheduling processes and tools. Implement best practices to optimize scheduling efficiency.
  2. Track baselines, perform what-if analysis, and develop contingency plans.

Skills And Attributes

  1. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills; team player.
  3. Ability to diagnose, analyze, and develop solutions to complex issues.
  4. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  5. Ability to prioritize various tasks with conflicting deadlines.
  6. Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.

Qualification Requirements

  1. Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of construction scheduling experience.
  3. Advanced Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project knowledge and skills are required.
  4. Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Procore knowledge is an asset.
  6. Experience doing scheduling on large ICI construction projects preferred.
