SUMMARY
The Building Condition Assessor is an entry-level position within the BGIS Professional Services team. This multi-disciplinary group of engineers and technical staff provides services across BGIS Accounts, including Asset Management, Building Science, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Energy Efficiency, and Sustainability. The Building Condition Assessor role offers valuable site evaluation and engineering judgment experience, working independently while supported by a top-tier team of engineering professionals.
The Building Condition Assessor I applies building condition assessment processes and technical standards to conduct asset assessments, identifying asset conditions and deficiencies.
The output of this process includes recommendations for Capital Project work, leading to Project Management, Engineering Design, and Construction Management roles.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes site visits at client real estate locations and performs building component identification and condition evaluation.
- Completes reporting using BGIS software for use in RealAsset – our BGIS-developed Asset Management software.
- Provides recommendations and cost estimates for building envelopes, components, and systems repair or replacement for inclusion in the capital budget plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- University or college diploma in a relevant technical field such as architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, building science, or building engineering.
- Entry-level position, but 1-3 years of relevant work experience would be an asset.
- General knowledge of technical standards and processes in completing building condition assessments, particularly the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Practice E2018-15 “Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process,” would be an asset.
- General knowledge of the process of cost estimating for replacement and repair of building components and systems.
- General knowledge of building science, including foundational knowledge of all areas of study - architectural building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems, or site components.
- General knowledge of general building design, construction, and facility operation of commercial buildings.
- Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Excel and ability to learn other applications quickly.
- Strong computer skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel 50-70%.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Enrolled as EIT, P. Eng, C.Tech, or RET is an asset.
