We are hiring a Mechanical Design Team Lead to join our team! This is a working-lead role, with 80% approximately design work and 20% supervisory responsibilities. Successful candidates will have long-term experience in a similar lead or supervisor role, with demonstrated knowledge of machine design and industrial automation. They will also demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, a team-oriented attitude, strong attention to detail, and effective organizational skills within a fast-paced environment.

Shift Schedule:

1. Monday to Friday, Day shift; The employee must be on-site by 8:00am
2. 8.5-hour day with ½ hour unpaid lunch from 12:30pm-1:00pm
3. Overtime available

Overview:
Design Responsibilities:

1. Report to Plant Manager
2. Generate concept representation, proof of principle, preliminary or final design CAD models
3. Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes as needed
4. Design and perform proof of principle
5. Create and generate the manufacturing package and associated BOM
6. Maintain detailed notes, design calculations, and other documentation (including drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters and performance guarantees)
7. Effectively communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with all necessary departments, including Service, Manufacturing, Assembly, Electrical Controls, and Project Management
8. Provide customer support as needed
9. Review and adapt to information regarding product innovations, competitors, and market conditions
10. Follow design standards and best practices
11. Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines, as well as VTR’s Mission, Vision, and Values
12. Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and lead Mechanical Design department
2. Delegate work to Mechanical Design department members and ensure team members are meeting timelines and following design standards and best practices
3. Communicate and coordinate with other departments, project management, and senior management regarding project updates, issues, etc.
4. Attend various required meetings
5. Review and update RoadRunner as needed
6. Facilitate training and development of all Mechanical Design department team members
7. Coach, train, and assist Mechanical Design Team as needed
8. Assist HR with hiring and progressive discipline processes for Mechanical Design department as needed
9. Assist with department enhancement and innovation
10. General cleaning of workspace
11. Ensure team is following Health & Safety guidelines and adhering to VTR’s mission, vision, and values
12. Other general labour tasks as required

What You'll Bring:

1. Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer
2. Long-term experience and strong knowledge of machine design and automation Industrial Automation required
3. 3-5 years of experience in a similar Design Lead or Supervising role
4. Experience within medical, nuclear, aerospace, food, or packaging industry design
5. Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks
6. Post Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Drafting in CAD systems
7. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, & Teams
8. Strong attention to detail, communication, and time management skills
9. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
10. Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines
11. Demonstrates innovative thinking and proactive/reactive problem-solving skills
12. Commitment to quality and safety

6. PPE (hearing protection and safety glasses) provided when required
