KGM is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Manager to join their team and oversee the financial operations of the organization. Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), the Finance Manager will play a key role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of KGM. As the successful candidate, you will manage the Finance department and provide coaching and mentorship to your team. Overseeing a significant operating budget, you will maintain precise financial records, deliver timely and actionable financial reports to inform organizational decision-making, and provide strategic financial oversight. This role is essential in supporting the sustainability of the organization and advancing KGM's mission to assist those in need within the Kelowna community.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Create and manage annual budgets in collaboration with department managers, providing regular reports and analysis to support decision-making;
- Assist with financial aspects of grant writing and reporting, including preparation of financial reports for grants and BC Housing contracts;
- Post journal entries, reconcile bank accounts, manage semi-monthly payroll, AP/AR, and ensure timely filing of government remittances (Health Tax, WorkSafe BC, GST);
- Track and ensure timely renewal of business licenses, insurance, and leases as well as maintain and file financial records;
- Lead and manage the finance team, including the Assistant Financial Manager and Accounting Clerk, and serve as the primary liaison with contracted accountants;
- Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement within the Finance team;
- Prepare for and lead the annual audit, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies;
- Manage financial risk and develop strategies for mitigation and digitization, continuously improving financial processes for greater efficiency and security;
- Provide cash flow analysis and forecasting, advising the ED on financial strategies, and present quarterly financial reports to the Board;
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Requirements- Significant experience in financial management, preferably within a not-for-profit organization in a leadership capacity;
- CPA Designation is preferred but not required;
- Extensive expertise in all aspects of not-for-profit accounting, financial management, and reporting;
- Proven experience overseeing external audits and working with audit firms;
- Strong background in financial analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning;
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and their application in the non-profit sector;
- Proficiency in budget preparation, analysis techniques, and financial forecasting;
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, for financial analysis and reporting;
- Experience with QuickBooks Online and ADP Payroll is an asset;
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to solve problems and manage complex tasks;
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify underlying principles and resolve financial challenges;
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all financial processes;
- Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
