Job description

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years.

Experience: Experience an asset.

Work Setting: Child care centre.

Tasks:

  1. Assess the children's development in order to prepare a learning plan tailored to their needs.
  2. Assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties.
  3. Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  4. Supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers.
  5. Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest.
  6. Order supplies and equipment.
  7. Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
  8. Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
  9. Knowledge of licensing regulations.
  10. Establish guidelines for behaviour.
  11. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
  12. Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children.

Certificates, Licences, Memberships, and Courses:

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate.
