Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will be in an entry level legal assistant position providing support to our lawyers and staff in various legal tasks. This role is essential for maintaining the workflow of our legal operations and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  1. Work with staff in various areas such as litigation, wills and estates, corporate commercial to assist with projects and areas in need of support.
  2. Provide reception relief during lunch hours, greet clients, obtain proper identification and client ID forms.
  3. Open client files, conduct conflict searches and have working knowledge of ESI Law/Unity Accounting, MS Word and other government platforms such as BC Registry Services and Land Title.
  4. Assist in file management by tracking deadlines and coordinating schedules.
  5. Perform data entry tasks to ensure accurate record-keeping.
  6. Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings and managing calendars.
  7. Collaborate on various projects to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  8. Draft legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, and correspondence.

Skills

  1. Legal Administrative Professional Certificate is required.
  2. Strong communication and people skills.
  3. Proficiency in MS Word is preferred.
  4. Excellent proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  5. Experience in legal drafting with a solid understanding of legal terminology.
  6. Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  7. The ability to handle large volumes of documents and files for organization and preparation for filing in court or with other government agencies.
  8. Strong administrative capabilities, including proficiency in office software applications.
  9. Time management skills to assist in coordinating various legal tasks effectively.
  10. Ability to write clearly and concisely for various audiences.
  11. Accurate data entry skills with a focus on maintaining confidentiality.
