The Government of Nunavut was selected as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, Top Employers for Young People and recent graduates in 2025. With one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada, Nunavut is a dynamic, vibrant territory, committed to becoming an even better place for future generations. As a government, it is strengthening its unique model of governance - one that integrates Inuit societal values, promotes use of the Inuktut language, achieves a representative public service, and collaborates with partners to achieve the promise of Nunavut. Successful applicants will enjoy a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges and opportunities for training and career advancement.

In this context of dynamic transformation, the Government of Nunavut is seeking two exceptional leaders to join its senior executive ranks: Assistant Deputy Minister, Courts and Justice Services and Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Safety. Both of these important positions will be reporting into the Deputy Minister of Justice.

Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Safety

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Public Safety is responsible for the strategic leadership and efficient delivery of justice programs across Nunavut, with a strong focus on overseeing the territory’s corrections division. This role encompasses Community Justice, Corrections, and Law Enforcement, ensuring effective management of correctional facilities and the Territorial Police Service Agreement. The ADM is accountable for maintaining a balance between public safety, rehabilitative initiatives, and financial stewardship while fostering a fair and effective justice system in Nunavut. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in law, public safety, criminology, social sciences, or a related field from a recognized university, along with a minimum of seven years of managerial experience in a relevant field such as policing, corrections, community justice, or government policy. Experience in budget management is also required.

Assistant Deputy Minister, Courts and Justice Services

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Courts and Justice Services provides strategic leadership in overseeing justice services, responsible for managing key entities, including Court Services, Legal Registries, and the Human Rights Tribunal, while fostering public awareness, enhancing staff development, and upholding fiscal accountability. The ADM plays a critical role in ensuring a fair, accessible, and culturally responsive justice system for Nunavummiut and across Nunavut, ensuring operational efficiency, legislative compliance, and alignment with the Nunavut Agreement and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit. The ideal candidate will have a law degree from an accredited law school or a related field, along with at least seven years of senior management experience in a court, legal, or administrative tribunal setting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Completion of an LL.B or J.D is considered an asset.

Both ADM roles are considered a Position of Trust; therefore, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is mandatory. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. We encourage you to apply if your background aligns with these qualifications through a comparable mix of education and experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

If you are interested in applying for any of these roles, please email your cover letter and resume or contact Michelle Richard or Renée Young at ryoung@boyden.com. Please include the Title of the role in the subject line of your email. Those candidates under serious consideration will be contacted.
