Legal Assistant Job Description
We are a boutique personal injury firm in downtown Ottawa. We are looking for an ambitious self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, to join our growing firm as Legal Assistant.
A successful Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to lawyers, ensuring efficient management of legal processes and documentation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
- Conduct legal research and summarize findings.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of court documents and forms.
- Manage and organize client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and court appearances.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties as directed by lawyers.
- Assist in the preparation of case materials for court and hearings.
- Maintain and update case management systems.
- Handle billing and invoicing procedures.
- Perform other administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant Diploma, Paralegal Certificate).
- At least 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with legal research tools and case management software.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
Assets:
- Experience in civil litigation or injury law.
- Knowledge of Ontario court procedures and legal practices.
- Certification or membership with a relevant professional association (e.g., Ontario Association of Legal Assistants).
- Proficiency using Primafact or similar software program.
