Legal Assistant Job Description

We are a boutique personal injury firm in downtown Ottawa. We are looking for an ambitious self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, to join our growing firm as Legal Assistant.

A successful Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to lawyers, ensuring efficient management of legal processes and documentation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize findings.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of court documents and forms.
  • Manage and organize client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and court appearances.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties as directed by lawyers.
  • Assist in the preparation of case materials for court and hearings.
  • Maintain and update case management systems.
  • Handle billing and invoicing procedures.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant Diploma, Paralegal Certificate).
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with legal research tools and case management software.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Assets:

  • Experience in civil litigation or injury law.
  • Knowledge of Ontario court procedures and legal practices.
  • Certification or membership with a relevant professional association (e.g., Ontario Association of Legal Assistants).
  • Proficiency using Primafact or similar software program.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
