The Donation Ambassador position receives donations from the general public and commercial businesses and processes to become the new inventory for the ReStore. Their primary role is to ensure that donations are efficiently and accurately processed, organized, and ready for placement on the store sales floor.
Receiving Donations: Donation Ambassadors are responsible for receiving donations from the general public and businesses. Providing excellent customer service through positive engagement with donors.
Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of received donations, update inventory systems, and ensure products are correctly labeled and barcoded for tracking.
Quality Control: Inspect possible donations according to store merchandise standards to ensure quality merchandise goes to the sales floor. At the same time, we are maintaining positive interactions with donors if a donation does not meet store merchandise standards by suggesting alternatives for denied donations.
Organizing and Storing: Donation Ambassadors organize and store products in the proper storage areas, ensuring that items are correctly arranged, stacked, and stored to maximize space and ease of access.
Stock Rotation: They may implement a "first-in, first-out" (FIFO) system to ensure that older inventory is used before newer items, reducing the likelihood of items going unsold.
Customer Picks: Prepare merchandise and assist customers with merchandise pick-ups.
Communication: Collaborate with other store staff or management to communicate any discrepancies, issues, or special requirements for the received merchandise.
Safety and Security: Ensure the safety and security of the stockroom area, following safety protocols and preventing theft or loss of merchandise.
Maintenance: Keep the backroom clean, organized, and free of clutter. Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed.
Compliance: Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and compliance regulations related to inventory handling, safety, and security.
Donation Ambassadors play a critical role in accepting donations from the general public and commercial businesses and in the process of becoming the new inventory for the ReStore. Without inventory through donations and sales, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay could not sustain Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing affordable housing for the local community.
