Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The role focuses on providing support in delivery and coordination of various social programs.


Accountabilities

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.


Social Services Support Work

  • Provides support and coordination in the delivery of designated social programs.
  • Provides support in planning and implementation of approved activities within social services setting.
  • Provides support in the delivery of designated activities within social services setting.
  • Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress.
  • Tracks statistics and compiles basic reports on programs and activities when required.
  • Accurately records and reports any relevant information.
  • May assist with schedule organizing and client records maintenance.
  • Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all clients.
Other Responsibilities

  • May assist with client intake and basic statistics completion.
  • May assist with crisis intervention.
  • May provide assistance to Case Workers and act as a liaison between Case Workers and their clients in connection to administrative tasks and general coordination.
  • May contact medical, legal, tribunal and court offices as necessary to obtain necessary information at the direction of the manager.
  • May accompany clients to medical, legal, tribunal and court offices as necessary.
  • Maintains availability for personal, practical, and moral support.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.


Critical Relationship Management

Internal: MU leaders and staff, clients and their family members, volunteers.
External: Might have to communicate with community members, police, and agencies.


Managerial/Technical Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Community Service Coordinator.
Direct reports: none.

  • May show others how to perform certain procedures.

Financial And Material Management

  • Minor material responsibility (occasionally receiving and ensuring proper use of materials, some limited access to confidential information).
  • May be accountable for operating and/or maintaining specialized equipment.
  • The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds.
  • The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.

  • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a facility or office setting.
  • The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste

  • The incumbent may have little to no travel required.
  • The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shifts.
  • The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illness due to:
  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Sharp objects
  • Other dangerous situations
  • Experience moderate physical exertion causing fatigue, may be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma plus a formal certificate program or specialized courses of one year is required.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
  • Requires First Aid Certificate.
  • Police Clearance, Drivers license.
  • Ability to Swim, Clean driver's abstract and 2M liability Auto Insurance.

Experience And Knowledge

  • The incumbent must have two years of related experience.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $25.29 to $31.62 with a maximum of $37.94.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
