Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers' Council Secretariat (PSEC).

The Director of Student Housing leads the strategic development, management, administration, operation, assessment and viability of student housing. This role has accountability for providing an exceptional, holistic, and student-ready experience; is responsible and accountable for the development and execution of all housing-related strategy, operations, and evolution related to the UFV community.

The Director leads and coordinates a comprehensive long-term strategy for all matters relating to student housing, including all on-campus housing accommodation, third-party agreements/opportunities, and includes development of an integrated service delivery model that brings together all aspects of holistic student success.

The Director ensures the development and implementation of marketing strategies, service innovations and business plans which optimize occupancy, revenue streams and operational efficiencies.

Qualifications

Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in business administration, education, psychology or a related field from a recognized, post-secondary institution. Masters degree in a related field is preferred.

Minimum seven (7) years of recent experience in post-secondary student housing or an equivalent field.

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role. Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.

Formal training in crises response and emergency management is considered an asset.

Evidence of ongoing learning and professional development relevant to the role.

Progressive management experience in a student-focused environment. Competencies will include strategic thinking and integration of services, change management, interpersonal, conflict resolution, organizational, and communication skills.

Extensive knowledge of student development theory and its application for holistic student engagement programming, community building, student staff training, and student conduct.

Proven ability to develop concise and well-informed policies, procedures, and business practices related to student housing that minimize risk to students, staff, and the institution, and contributes to positive service experiences.

Demonstrated experience with budget development, monitoring and forecasting.

Understanding of building facilities maintenance and capital planning processes.

Marketing and communication knowledge in a post-secondary environment.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of FOIPPA and the ability to act with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality when addressing sensitive issues.

Experience using student systems and software such as StarRez and Banner.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure positive interactions with a variety of stakeholders.

Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Creates and implements plans - Shapes, aligns and executes the strategic priorities to meet student and community needs.

Leads change - Remains flexible, adjusting to changing circumstances and leads positive change by balancing innovation and calculated risk taking.

Cultivates collaborative relationships - Builds effective working relationships internally and externally and collaborates to achieve mutually beneficial goals.

Inspires and develops talent - Invests in developing yourself, staff and faculty, effective teams, and our culture of excellence.

Makes effective decisions - Makes sound and timely decisions that benefit UFV in both straightforward and ambiguous circumstances.
