Our client, Sagard Holdings Management Inc. (“Sagard“) is a rapidly expanding multi-strategy alternative asset manager with professionals based in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. Founded by Power Corporation of Canada (PCC) in 2005 to complement its global investment holdings, assets under management have expanded from $500M USD to over $27B USD, and Sagard’s team of diverse professionals has expanded from 50 to almost 400 investment and business professionals. Sagard invests across five asset classes: venture capital & growth, private equity, private credit, real estate and private wealth investment solutions.

Sagard is seeking a Senior Director, Legal to join its legal team, which consists of approximately 20 full-time employees, to support the company’s accelerated growth. In this role, you will drive fund operations, M&A initiatives, and legal risk management while optimizing legal processes through automation and Legal AI. You will be crucial in shaping Sagard’s broader legal strategy and influencing high-stakes investment decisions on a global scale. On a daily basis, you will provide strategic legal guidance on a wide range of investment, operational and regulatory matters. Your role will be multifaceted, encompassing a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

1. Driving private investment fund operations, managing structuring, formation, and transactions across multiple jurisdictions;
2. Overseeing M&A initiatives, including GP stake investments, platform acquisitions, and post-acquisition integration;
3. Developing scalable legal frameworks, optimizing fund documentation, side letters, and regulatory compliance;
4. Spearheading legal innovation, implementing automation and AI to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency;
5. Collaborating with key stakeholders and teams in investment, finance, tax, and operations to support global expansion.

If you’re a strategic legal professional looking to make an impact in a fast-growing investment firm, we would like to hear from you. We’re looking for candidates with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience acquired in a top law firm or an alternative investment manager, with experience in funds. Additional experience in corporate finance, M&A and working with retail or mass affluent investors is considered an asset.

You must be a member of the Bar of a Canadian province, New York or any other relevant jurisdiction to qualify.
